‘Spotlight’ fue la ganadora de la noche consiguiendo tres premios, entre ellos mejor película, mientras que ‘Mad Max: Furia en la Carretera’ arrasó con nueve premios, entre ellos mejor director para al australiano George Miller.
La 21ª edición de los Critics' Choice Awards, premios que entregan los miembros de la Broadcast Film Critics Association, el grupo más grande de los críticos de cine de Estados Unidos y Canadá, tuvo lugar en el Barker Hangar de Santa Mónica (California), en una gala menos glamurosa de lo habitual por la falta de muchas celebridades, entre ellos Leonardo DiCaprio, George Miller o Brie Larson. Sin duda unos premios que están perdiendo poco a poco todo al glamour que parecían tener, ya que aún siendo considerados parte del llamado ‘big four’ (junto con los Oscar, Globos de Oro y Bafta), ni siquiera los propios actores nominados muestran su interés por asistir a la gala, dando prioridad a otros premios como los Globos de Oro o los Bafta, premios con mucho más prestigio a día de hoy.
El conductor de la ceremonia fue el comediante T.J. Miller, uno de los protagonistas de la sitcom de HBO ‘Silicon Valley’, que durante toda la gala hizo monólogos y gags bastante divertidos e ingeniosos, muy alejado del estilo de Ricky Gervais.
Spotlight’ empezó la noche ganando el premio al mejor reparto, imponiéndose entre otros al reparto de ‘The Big Short’, su gran competidora en esta categoría y con vísperas a otro gran duelo en los premios SAG (sindicato de actores). A este premio sumó el de mejor guión original para Tom McCarthy (ausente en la gala) y Josh Singer y el de mejor película. Premios muy necesarios para mantenerse con opciones de cara al Oscar, más después del ‘batacazo’ que tuvo en los Globos de Oro frente a ‘El Renacido’ perdiendo película y dirección.
‘Mad Max: Furia en la Carretera’ fue la otra gran vencedora de la noche, llevándose nada menos que nueve premios, entre ellos el de mejor director para al australiano George Miller, premio que fue recogido por las cinco actrices de la película que interpretaron a las esposas del villano Immortan Joe. A este importante premio sumó el de mejor dirección artística, montaje, vestuario, maquillaje, efectos visuales, película de acción, actor en película de acción para Tom Hardy y actriz en película de acción para Charlize Theron. Un importante saco de premios que auguran muchas victorias en diferentes categorías en los próximos Oscar.
Sylvester Stallone se llevó al premio al mejor actor secundario por su papel en ‘Creed’, interpretando al legendario Rocky Balboa y con el cual ya consiguió ganar un reciente Globo de Oro. Pese a no estar nominado en los SAG y Bafta, para muchos expertos esta premio lo coloca como favorito absoluto para repetir victoria en los Oscar.
Con Alicia Vikander vivimos una de las pocas sorpresas de la noche, ya que se llevó el premio a la mejor actriz secundaria por ‘The Danish Girl’, frente a la reciente ganadora del Globo de Oro Kate Winslet. Quizá esta sea una de las categorías más abiertas y en las que más sorpresas nos pueden deparar en los próximos premios.
No hubo sorpresas en la categoría de mejor actriz, que fue para Brie Larson por su papel en ‘Room’, película independiente y que está reportando de innumerables premios a la joven actriz americana, como su reciente Globo de Oro. Sin duda una de las categorías más cerradas de cara el Oscar junto a mejor actor.
Leonardo DiCaprio no falló en los pronósticos y se hizo con su segundo Critics’ Choice al mejor actor por ‘El Renacido’, en la que interpreta a un explorador, Hugh Glass, que tras ser atacado por un oso mientras cazaba es dado por muerto por los miembros de su propio grupo y abandonado a su suerte. Premio que junto con su reciente Globo de Oro lo pone en una inmejorable posición para su tan ansiado Oscar.
DiCaprio que estuvo ausente en la gala, dió un video-discurso pregrabado agradeciendo al premio.
Uno de los mejores momentos de la noche fue el memorable discurso que dió el pequeño Jacob Tremblay, que ganó el premio al mejor actor joven por ‘Room’, todo un ejemplo de tranquilidad y profesionalidad que encandiló a todos los presentes.
Una vez visto al palmarés completo de esta 21ª edición de los Critics' Choice Awards, podemos decir que poco o nada van a influir en los siguientes premios importantes, más allá de darle una nueva oportunidad a ‘Spotlight’ y confirmar el favoritismo de actores como DiCaprio o Larson. Pocas sorpresas en una gala con muchos ausentes y que ya esperan la siguiente parada en esta interesante carrera al Oscar: los premios SAG el próximo 30 de Enero.
